2nd Annual Roots of Southern Cuisine “Tase de Roots”

You're invited to celebrate the rich legacy of southern culinary traditions, customs, and agriculture at our 2nd Annual Roots of Southern Cuisine Fundraiser. Join us for a Gullah inspired farm-to-fork dinner on February 22nd 4-7pm at Eartha’s Farm & Market, 4850 Moncrief Road.

“Tase de roots” is a farm-to-fork dining experience, featuring foods grown, harvested and prepared here in North Florida. Come enjoy a gourmet southern meal prepared by Chef Brandon Byers while connecting to the Gullah roots of southern cuisine. A special guest speaker will deliver a keynote address, making this a memorable occasion for all attendees.

Chef Brandon Byers, the owner of the Cookbook Restaurant in Jacksonville, Florida, is the culinary mastermind of the "Tase de Roots" dinner. Known for his innovative takes on traditional Southern and Gullah cuisine, Chef Byers combines fresh, local ingredients with time-honored recipes to create unforgettable dining experiences.

Culture Gullah cuisine, rooted in the rich history of the Gullah people from the coastal regions of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida, is a vibrant fusion of culinary traditions. It emphasizes fresh, locally sourced ingredients and simple, hearty preparations that celebrate the land and the sea. The "Tase de Root" dinner will showcase the authentic flavors of Gullah culture, highlighting the unique African heritage and culinary artistry that have been passed down through generations.

Eartha’s Farm & Market (EFAM) is an initiative of the Clara White Mission. EFAM is an urban farm located in a food desert community in Northwest Jacksonville. EFAM is committed to increasing food access, providing training and education, and being a resource to communities in need.

We hope you will join us for this momentous occasion as we embark on a journey through Gullah culture & cuisine. Proceeds will benefit Eartha’s Farm & Market. Please email efam@clarawhitemission.org for sponsorship opportunities.
